I read this article and I love it, and I’m not sure where the connection to gender really comes in. I read this as a critique of society, and a suggestion that we are living through an evolution into an Orwellian type society. But okay, so gender: Do you you feel that Masculinity is under-rated, or perhaps inappropriately demonized? Do you also feel that the modern American male is trending into a less masculine personality type and role? I certainly do, in fact much of what this article states resonates with me, because I feel as though I have to fight to maintain my masculinity while still keeping in step with the overall societal trend. I think the same is happening with femininity in that women are forced to be less feminine in order to keep in step with society. It’s like the corporate culture that dominates American society is neutralizing gender so that it can create an optimal workforce. I don’t think anyone wants this, men or women, feminist or civil rights activist. We all have a vested interest in fostering a society of happy and healthy people, and making people docile, socially inept and dependent on a corporate entity for anything and everything is truly frightening, regardless of whatever gender identity or whatever else you stand for. A breakdown of culture is a breakdown of humanity, and a breakdown of humanity is a breakdown of society.
