That’s not “always.” Eisenhower publically denounced McCarthy’s methods, and staunchly defended George Marshall from the senator's relentless assaults. McCarthy himself was largely taken down by Edward R. Murrow, a person that took a very conservative approach to news reporting. He did this by demonstrating how McCarthy routinely contradicted himself.
Regardless, history tells us that McCarthy wasn’t entirely wrong, as new information from the old Soviet Union that is now open to America, as well as newly released transcripts of closed hearings before McCarthy’s subcommittee, has shown that many of his identifications of Communists were actually correct and that the scale of Soviet espionage activity in the United States during the 1940s and 1950s was larger than many previously suspected.
Trump and Gingrich should not be considered true conservatives. They are bombastic mouthpieces that do not personally subscribe to the tenants of conservatism and can best be described in one word: politicians.
