Well, I certainly hope that the one that you feel is being done respectfully is this one… If not, I’d like to know why it feels like an attack.
I read his entire piece as a critical satire on Medium, and it’s business decisions. That’s how I received it. I didn’t read that article and think to myself “yeah feminism is BS, and these feminists are taking over.” I read it as something that resonated with my experience of watching my triple curated pieces reach only 200 readers, while writers on topics in feminism, LGBTQ, racial issues (ZORA) and gender fluidity were being featured in the top publications, and on the front page, and getting 5k+ claps.
Now did I ever say that stuff should be removed? No. I did agree that much of the content was highly subjective, and I also agreed that I find subjective content to be a little dangerous (especially when it leans into hot political issues such as Abortion, police brutality, Flint Michigan and World Peace).
Perhaps his article leaned too far into feminism and should have been more neutral in its stance regarding the topics, and used the word “left” or “liberal” instead. I would love to go back and read it again critically, however, it’s gone. I do find that alarming.
Now Donna, I have been a fan and follower of yours, I have enjoyed many of your witty articles that boast legendary lines and incredible titles. I have never once attacked your stuff in comments. The same can be said for many of the other top female writers that also write on personal interest topics from a female perspective, that is unique to females. I enjoy it, I’ve clapped for at least several dozen articles that might fall into this “genre.”
I’ve even written articles that I rather pro-female, I wrote one article that outright attacked men who called for mandatory sex, and considered it a resource. I wrote another hard-hitting satirical piece that I’d like to think shredded the pro-life movement, and I even titled it “the real reason we need to ban abortion now” just so that I could get a lot of unsuspecting woman-haters to reading it.
But despite that, I’m attacked for saying I liked an article. And that wasn’t the first time. I was attacked for the Abortion article, just because I’m a man that wrote an article on Abortion. I’ve been attacked so many times now on Social Media I’m beginning to lost track.
I don’t think having an opinion should make me a villain.
